Also open to advanced pianists who have no previous organ background but wish for a “conversion course”. It is assumed that in practical terms this means that pianists have passed Eighth Grade AMEB in organ or piano, or equivalent in another examination body, or as a result of experience play at that level or higher
Daily schedule is usually:
Individual practice and individual lesson in the morning (several tutors available)
Organ master class in the afternoon during elective time on the schedule
Seminar in the afternoon
Sometimes more individual practice during the afternoon
Attendance at Festival evening event
Performance opportunities during the festival as follows:
Informal recitals at St. Stephen’s on Saturday afternoon 3 January (first afternoon and as yet no prior instruction in the course)
Daily master classes
One to play in Friday night concert
One to play in the Sunday final concert
Some to play preludes or postludes to the main 9.30 am Eucharist on the final Sunday
A public organ recital including all members of the stream at St. John’s Cathedral on Saturday afternoon
It is therefore assumed that all (with the exception perhaps of pianists) will come to the Festival with organ pieces already “well on the way” to be further worked on in practice and lessons, and played during the performance opportunities. And of course they may work on some pieces “from scratch” when they arrive
This is a specialist organ program. Please note that there are more “general” opportunities for organ instruction as part of the elective progam of the Church Music Stream
Because of the specialist nature of the program and the limited places available, applicants might not be accepted for this stream
