Open to advanced singers – you will need to audition for this. It is assumed that members of this stream will have significant music reading abilities and vocal technique as a result of either training or experience
Tony Funk has conducted National Youth Choir of Australia twice, and RSCM events in Brisbane twice. He is a “singer’s conductor” – as a singer with an international reputation and a voice teacher himself, he approaches the choral experience through issues of “voice”. Singers enjoy working with him particularly for the “vocalist” mindset that he brings to the process
The daily schedule generally consists of:
Two morning rehearsals with Tony Funk (separated by Morning Tea)
Lunch
Vocal Masterclass (to participate in or observe) with Tony Funk
Two afternoon rehearsals with Tony Funk (separated by Afternoon Tea)
Evening performance
Evening performances may be liturgical music during a service at either of the Cathedrals, a complete performance on the Sunshine Coast, or performances as part of concerts
There is time off on one morning and optional electives on two afternoons (recognising that some singers are also teachers or conductors and may be interested in some of the elective offerings). Others may decide to use these as “free time”.
